Regretfully They Tell Us Cook-Coo

I'm sorry to have to write you like this. I know it seems like this all happened without warning, but we both knew it was coming eventually. It's just, you know......we've each changed so much. We were both so different when this all began. I love you, Wisconsin, but I'm afraid that it is time for us to move on. I will remember our moments with great fondness always. Whichever band Cupid should cast upon you next will be a very lucky one indeed. It has been my privilege to know you and this is "the hardest thing I'll ever have to do." I can't bear to hear you say that "I want it that way." We have at last reached the end. I am afraid that this really is good "bye bye bye." This may seem a grand tragedy, my dear, but no tragedy can ever be "larger than life."......I guess what I am trying to say is that we are getting the "MMMM bop" out of the North before the snow comes back.

Actually, that's not why we are leaving at all. We are in fact leaving, though. Josiah has attained scholarships and seems to be under the impression that he wants an education -- poor misguided chap that he is. As such he shall from now on reside in Kentucky. My two sisters have taken up residence in the South as well and our parents are moving to Austria in a few weeks. In honor of my Vagrant Kin, I shall be leaving you for San Fransisco, Northwest Alaska, Atlanta, and finally settling in Austin, Texas......(I had to try to "one up" the siblings). Why, you may ask.....Well, to record the next album of course. It shall be rock and it shall be ubiquitous in its origin. I can't wait to introduce you to all of the characters involved!!

We have one last show before the masses disperse. We did not realize that it would be our last show until recently, but alas, life accelerates beyond the clumsy road cones. If we would have realized that this was our last Wisconsin show for a long time, we would have let you know sooner. For that we offer our sincerest apologies. The show will be Saturday, August 14th (8 PM) at "The Speakeasy" in Janesville, WI. Tim Angsten will be opening up the evening and various musicians will be joining us throughout the course of the night. The most important part of this evening, however, will be the following: We will be auctioning off (for any price):

-A Stukenberg beach ball given to us at the Mountain of Pieces release party
-A Mountain of Pieces Halloween costume, also a gift from a very gifted friend....that's right: you can now dress up as a CD.
-All the masks and hats that the band wore at the silo show and the silo photo shoots.....including two Elvis faces.
-Any Stukenberg t-shirt for any price

The venue address is listed on the home and tour pages at www.StukenbergMusic.com. Please, please, please join us. We would love to see you one last time, as it will likely be a while before we return.

Cheers
-David

P.S. We will be posting answers to a few of your questions regarding song meanings in the upcoming weeks.
P.P.S: Ah, yes: Guitar pics and progress documentation shall be following shortly thereafter.

Official Guitar Construction Entry 1

During preparation for this project, I concluded that the materials I used, the equipment needed for the construction process, and even the design itself were minimally involved in obtaining a quality product. Even with these three things properly in order I could still manage to screw it up. So, I decided the single most important part of the impending creation was to surround myself with brilliant people. It is of note that only one of the following characters has any experience in building guitars, in fact six of them don't even play guitar. All eight of them, however, had a few major pre-requisites in common.

First and foremost, they are all thinkers, they exude competence, and posess the ability to solve problems. Secondly, they all enjoy creating things. Third, I enjoy hanging out with them and last, but not least, they do not think of me as crazy. I find these last two coincide quite often.

So, without further adieu, may I introduce to you:

Sam (left): All things wood and carpentry/moral support (this photo was actually taken at the first very official strategic and so on meeting, regarding the construction of course)

William: Generally brilliant fellow/father who no longer has science projects for he and I to force our energies upon, played a part in all steps and catagories.

Josiah: sheilding/official person to tell us that all of our plans, actions, and ideas are in fact WRONG

George (left):metals/machining/engeneering/CAD extrordinaire
Dave (right):Guitar teacher/tech/musical toys enthusiast/Head gear consultant

Honey: Head supervisor for precision cutting, drilling, etc...

Jay, Leroy, Paul and Tom were unavailible for photos due to their careers as super models, and foreign dignitaries.

I will be writing a more entries about the process of creating this guitar and posting them over the next month. All of the accompany photos, starting with these, are available in an album on the Photo Page.

to become a Jedi

So.......the other day in a radio interview, I was asked the following question: "what is something that your listeners should know about you as a person? " My response was as follows: "they should know that they should have better things to concern themselves with then minute trivia about me". That ladies and gentleman, is what you call a cop out, and for that I apoligize.

Despite the fact that what I said may be true, I do not wish to give the impression that I have some kind of secret existence that I hide beneath the guise of sarcasm. I intend to pay this debt that I have incured. Useless as the information may be, I shall provide it just the same.

In my effort to provide answers to this question I have been attempting to sift through the redundant and just plain boring. For instance, should I tell them about the outstanding omlette I made last night, or perhaps that awkward lady in the elevator, so many useless facts and so little time. I need to convery some sort of grandeur in my ramblings about my life. What is it that I do that is out of the ordinary.

The truth is that I work about 60 hours a week to fund the other 60 hour plus a week habit I have; this whole confounded music thing. So the time for these so called interesting things to happen unfortunately, does not exist. However in order to maintain my sanity I need to have a lofty goal to obssess over. Those who know me well, know this fact all too well and would probably describe it more with adjectives like annoying or compulsive......I am very easily distracted.

DIGRESSION # 1: With the silo ordeal, and the west coast tour behind us, I desperately needed a new venture to exhaust this need for a brain/physical energy consuming problem to solve.

DIGRESSION# 2: Those of you who know me, know that after the silo and such, I have been avoiding all forms of any musical creation resembling folk. In fact I have listened to almost exclusively rock and hip hop for the last month.

DIGRESSION#3: In light of digression #2 I have set aside my acoustic instruments, to make way for my current passion for the more distorted sounds. Over the years I have purchased a great many electric guitars, and played hundreds if not thousands more. Despite my tone explorations however, I have yet to find the perfect combinations of possible sounds in any one guitar. This leads us to....

DIGRESSION #3: Every tribal warrior must build his own canoe in order to reach his warrior status, every Jedi must construct his own light saber to become a true jedi....and so on ...you get the idea.

In order to become a true tribal warrior/jedi/ musician I must construct....my own guitar, (and if that works out, I may or may not commence production on my light saber.).

I will keep you posted on my progress.

cheers

Such a Long Time

Fabricating facebook friends and fans for free fantastic fun .....downoads....I simply cannot find a "F" word for download, which is freaking un fortunate. It's been a while gang, I hope all is well. We have so much to catch up on.

First of all we have a proposition for you. We realize that facebook friends are quite possibly the most meaningful kind of relationship a human being can be priveledged enough to be a part of in the year of our lord Gates and Jobs 2010. We also realize that every group you join on this prolific networking path to the future is actually a group and or movement that you actually care strongly about, and upon this same line of reasoning....the "fans" on our facebook fan page are actually real fans that genuinely give a passionate darn about what we are up to.......right?

So, that said we just love you all so much that we want to love more of you. We however could not think of encouraging shallow meaningless relationships, so we will attain your love the way all true love should be attainied.....we will purchase it. If for some reason there should sometime in the near future be 750 instead of 482 cases of true love on our facebook page we shall post a free download from the silo project. If for some reason the love number should reach 1,000 we will post the entire uncut documentary for free download. And should there be more love after that, I can personally assure you that there will be other compensation for your unconditional affection.

With love XOXoxoxoxo

Due West

Hello all from the the Nevada desert. I am not disappointed to see the glittery mass of Vegas disappear behind us. What a ridiculous cluster of excess. On a more positive note our hotel had a 24 hour wedding chapel. Unfortunately, none of us were able to find a fitting spouse during our 17 hours in the neon mecca.

Quick side note: In Vegas, it is illegal to give an intoxicated patron a tattoo. However, should one decide to stagger down any given isle they can sure as Elvis-still-lives-in-Canada give you a marriage license. Oh, the things we consider disposable. The dusty desolation of the nothing in front of us is a pristine redeemer, in great contrast to the sludge of humanity I gladly leave behind. Any way, off of my soap box I now leap.

The shows have all been going well. Everyone is mostly healthy. We've been consuming a daily communion of several thousand milligrams Vitamin C. As for our daily excercise...... we have some pretty intense thumb wrestling and rock paper scissors tournaments in the van. A few days ago we stopped at what was definitely the best rest stop I have ever seen. I guess its called The Grand Canyon. I don't even know what to say about it. I used up all of my allotted amazement for the next few months there. Somehow most of what follows seems sadly unimpressive after watching the sun go down behind the largest hole in planet earth.

Another epiphany that the four of us have had is that salvation army/goodwill/other assorted thrift locations take up less time than laundry mats. So you will be happy to know that with every day that passes we appear progressively more and more like homeless people and smell more and more like nursing homes ......no offense intended to any of you reading from nursing homes. Pictures to prove my point coming soon.

In closing, upon attaining a Mexican pancho, Everett Thomas has officially changed his name to "El Dangeroso." So, should any of you write with inquiries regarding the artist formerly known as Everett Thomas your questions will not be answered because, well......he no longer exists.

Cheers

The Bayou & Zombies

Rain in the swamps of Louisiana still brings more joy to my soggy soul than the thought of the snow at home. To my homies in the distant north I pose the following question:

Why do we live in the tundra and why do we hate one another enough to encourage each other to stay in our icy purgatory?

Granted, people occasionally get eaten by alligators here and, depending on the time of year, encounter some difficulties canoeing with banjos and such. But consider the pros:

-They don't own snow shovels
-Salt is only used in conjunction with greasy food
-You can buy fresh shrimp in gas stations.

Any way, I digress we are about an hour and a half away from our radio interview in Shreveport. Our front, passenger-side tire is freshly filled with air and Joel and Everett are deep in what has been one of the longest, most serious discussions about zombies I have ever had the privilege to eavesdrop upon......I've learned a lot. The first two songs for "The Zombie Project" should be posted by the end of the week. ......jk.....get It, that's text speak for just kidding.

Cheers

Friends

Those of you who know me know that I regularly joke about not having this all illusive thing that we refer to as friends. In the past few days we have played two shows in which I was blessed with strep throat. One of these shows included me getting electrocuted, the other included various other mishaps ranging from broken instruments to parking tickets.

That said, both nights were easily two of the most rewarding experiences I've had in a while. This was certainly not due to the performance by any stretch of the imagination, but rather to the friends and family that were gracious enough to administer the undeserved support and affection that completely reversed my chaos. And so my amigos of Saturday and Wednesday, I have two proclamations.

First, thank you. Know that I owe you more than I can possibly type on a phone in a van. Secondly, should you happen to hear me jest about my non-existent friends, kindly have the decency to find the nearest blunt
object and strike my foolish head. I stand shamefully corrected, and for that I could not be more grateful.

Thank you

Albums you should hear.

Last night I had my face rocked off of my unsuspecting face, by a band that I had aspired to see live for sometime called Dr. Dog. Any way the event led me to the realization that I should really force my musical tastes of late on all of you. So, without further a due here are my favorite albums of the past month.

1. Thrice-beggars
2. Fyfe Dangerfield- Fly yellow moon
3. Dr. Dog-fate

These albums have not necessarily come out in the last month but rather have come to my attention in such time. Enjoy

Happy Holidays

It was just recently that we moved here to Madison, but I want to make a shout out to those who organized the large snow ball fight on Bascom Hill the other week (For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about). Unfortunately, I was stuck at home in East Troy (due to the weather). I'm sure it was a great way to celebrate a day off and I wish i could have been there.

I'd like to thank Redefined for having us open for their concert earlier this month. Though, we're a bit delayed in saying it, it was a wonderful experience to play in front of such a responsive crowd and we hope you all enjoyed the show.

Also, thank you to those who fought the snow and cold to meet up with as the Frequency that following Wednesday.

Most of all, Happy Holidays to everyone. I hope that you are safe, well and that this is a time that you are able to relax and be with those you love.

How to attain a free pre-release

When we created this site initially, we had intended to include a feature that every band/artist/music site has .....a brief biography. Unfortunately, I have recently decided that I am quite bored with my colorful past and I can only assume that you are, too.

So, I want a new past and I want you to write it. Tell me what caused me to fall into this horrible downward spiral we call "songwriting". Tell me about that one traumatic event(and or narcotics) that happened to me years ago that caused me to create that droning monstrosity that would someday become track 6 or 8 or 2. There are so many horrible and beautiful things that have shaped the sound and the Blah blah blah ......just tell us what they were.

The best biography will receive a free pre-release copy of 'The Silo Project'. More than one winner may be chosen.

- I (david) receive a considerable amount of emails containing questions regarding the lyrics of various songs. So we decided to not only post all the lyrics, but to also include an anonymous forum style question box next to the lyrics of any given song. Follow the Music link to the discography and click on whatever song you want to read the lyrics for. Ask questions accordingly.
